Investor Education

At STANLIB, we understand that our clients have varied careers, which often do not include investment knowledge. This section is dedicated to helping our clients get the information they need in order to better understand their investments as well as the investment market at large.

Trustee training

Through our parent company, Liberty Group, we are in a position to offer our retirement fund clients a three-day trustee training course. For the existing trustees of funds invested with STANLIB, we will subsidise the cost of this course in full as part of our value-add service to our clients. Interested trustees should contact their dedicated STANLIB fund manager, who will assist in organising the training.

Course content includes the following:

  • Group Retirement Funds: What is a Retirement Fund? Different Types of Funds, Industry Regulation, Fund Benefits
  • Role of Trustees: Purpose of Trustees, Election of Trustees, Fiduciary Duties, Trustee Responsibilities
  • Fund Governance: Role Players, Monitoring of Service Providers, Good Governance and Ethical Standards
  • Queries and Complaints: Mismanagement of the Fund, Complaints/Queries, The Pension Funds Adjudicator
  • Distribution of Death Benefits: Legal Texts, Investigating Dependency, How to Distribute Death Benefits

    FSB Trustee Toolkit

The trustee toolkit is a free trustee education program. The focus of the program is to get trustees to put their good governance principles contained in the FSB's PF 130 Circular into practice.

By working through the program it is anticipated that the trustees will increase their knowledge and understanding of good governance.
